Shrader Ventures, from the first check

The founders we back tend to share a few traits. They kept building when the room was empty, they can sell as well as they can build, and they did the unglamorous work long before anyone was watching.

We write small first checks of $10,000 to $100,000 at the most critical point where that money decides whether a company gets to exist. We join rounds that a lead investor has already shaped, we leave governance to the people who should hold it, and we stay with a company for as long as it is standing.

We came to this work through private wealth management at Citi and Morgan Stanley, where we learned how capital moves: who gets access, at what price, and why. Through private banks we hold pre-IPO positions in SpaceX, Anthropic and OpenAI, which has shown us what a company can become only a few years after its first check, and why that first check deserves so much care.

Founders who work with us get quick answers and the reasons behind them. When the answer is no, we say so early and explain our thinking, because we understand the pressures a founder has to face.

The platform is deliberately small, a handful of companies a year, each with an introduction list from us that begins the week the wire lands. What we bring beyond the check is the network behind it: investors at the leading private banks and family offices, relationships built over years inside Citi and Morgan Stanley.
